Project 1: Case Study: Proposing Passive building design strategies

In a group of 6 members, we are required to choose a building that would showcase the basic building design for thermal comfort, e.g.. existing roof, then record and analyze the existing condition in term of thermal comfort of the interior directly affected by the basic building design. through the research on the basic design strategies and existing thermal comfort level and environmental factors affecting it and document all environmental factors for a day and average for a year. After the research we have to propose a passive design and elaborate the principles, strategies and details needed to perform best in tropical climate in order to achieve thermal comfort in the building. Our group have decided to choose a design studio house located at Seamark, Petaling Jaya. Below shows the case study and calculations before and after the thermal comfort. Through this project, I have learned how to identify and define the principles of heat transfer in relation to building and people, understand the thermal comfort and factors relating to it.
